Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have big busses?

No, at this time we do not have any of the big yellow busses. We specialize in Specialized Student Transportation for smaller group students. That may need to be transported much further away than the hometown school.

Are your drivers trained to assist students with special needs?

Comprehensive Training for Drivers

At New England Student Transportation, we prioritize the safety and well-being of all students, including those with special needs. Our drivers undergo comprehensive training designed to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist students effectively. This training covers a wide range of topics, ensuring that our drivers are well-prepared to handle various situations with care and understanding.

Collaboration with the Department of Education

We believe in continuous improvement and, to that end, we are actively collaborating with the Department of Education. This partnership allows us to explore and implement better educational practices for our drivers. By working together, we aim to enhance the training programs and tools available, ensuring that we provide the highest level of service to our students.

Will my town pay for my childs transportation ?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) ensures that children with disabilities receive a free appropriate public education, including related services like transportation. Here’s a brief overview of transportation services under IDEA.

Definition of Transportation as a Related Service

Under 34 CFR §300.34(c)(16), transportation is a related service that includes:

  • Travel to and from school and between schools
  • Travel in and around school buildings
  • Specialized equipment like adapted buses and ramps

Role of the IEP Team

The Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team is responsible for:

  • Assessing the need for transportation: Evaluating if it’s necessary for the child to benefit from education
  • Implementing services: Planning logistics and ensuring necessary resources are available

What types of special needs do you accommodate?

Our transportation services are designed to cater to a broad spectrum of special needs, ensuring that every individual’s requirements are met with precision and care. We accommodate:

  • Physical Disabilities: Providing accessible vehicles and assistance for individuals with mobility challenges.
  • Cognitive Impairments: Offering support and supervision tailored to the unique needs of those with cognitive challenges.

Do your drivers have to do background checks?

Yes!! We take this responsibility seriously by implementing rigorous screening processes for our drivers, including comprehensive criminal history checks and fingerprinting. This ensures drivers have clean records, providing parents with peace of mind.

Do your monitors have to do background checks?

The state of New Hampshire does NOT mandate these checks for monitors. However our company prioritizes the safety of children by requiring rigorous safety checks for both monitors and drivers. Each monitor will undergo the same background checks as the driver including the fingerprinting and clearance checks.

Although not a common practice with some companies, we believe every child deserves the safest environment possible. By enforcing safety checks for both monitors and drivers, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting your family. Your child’s safety is our top priority, and we will continue to take every measure to uphold this commitment.
